A&S Class: Silk banner painting

Silk banners have been used across various eras and cultures such as the Han Dynasty and Ottoman. Many banners were woven in the palace workshops, emphasizing their connection to the ruler and the state, and often dyed in vibrant colors like crimson, green, and olive green, including gold and silver gilding. Egg whites or diluted gum Arabic were used as binders for the pigments. Bursa was a major center for silk production and trade within the Ottoman Empire.
